After looking at some landscaping magazines and realizing that your home landscape is a little lackluster, you decide that it's time to make some changes to spruce things up (pardon the pun). But where to start? Should you work on the front yard which provides the first impression to your home, or do you go for the back yard where you and your significant other spend more of your time sitting outdoors? And do you do this yourself or call in someone who knows what they're doing?
If you've come to the realization that maybe this project would be better left in the hands of a professional, then you're not alone. When the spring weather arrives, so do all of the great landscaping ideas about what to change in your home or business. So before you actually start the landscaping project, it might be a good idea to talk to a professional first. But how do you know who to trust and who might be a reliable landscaper? If you follow these simple rules you will find yourself in the presence of a true professional!
Rule number one: Instead of identifying "the one" right off the bat, consider narrowing down your search to a couple of qualified candidates. This will give you a broader range of individuals to choose from, and it also takes the pressure off of finding "the one"at the beginning of your search. How do you find these initial candidates? Start on the internet. Many great landscaping companies have websites where you can not only learn about the company, but also see some examples of the work that they do. Attached to some websites are customer reviews, which again can give you good information about the company and the general level of satisfaction of their customers.
If you like the look of the pictures on the website and feel that this might be a good company to do business with, call them up and set up a time to speak to someone from the company. Maybe they give out free estimates or an analysis of your landscaping project. If that is the case then it might give you the perfect opportunity to interview the company to see if they are a good fit for you.
If it turns out that after meeting with them you are not as thrilled about the idea of working with them, then move on. There are way too many companies out there to settle for one who you do not feel comfortable with.
Rule number two: ask for references. Chances are if the landscaping company has been in business for a while, they should have a number of
customer reviews or testimonials to provide to prospective customers. They should also have pictures of some of their past work so that you can see what they've done with other homes or businesses in the area. If the company cannot produce any testimonials from happy customers or show you pictures of their work, it might be time to move on.
Don't forget about checking with your friends or family members to see if they've had some good experiences with local landscaping companies. If they've had some landscaping work done recently and are happy with the results, then get some referrals and start with them first. It may help to cut down on the time it takes to find a good landscaper in the first place.
Rule number three involves checking the company's policy on the work that they perform. Do they have a guarantee to backup the work? Do they guarantee the work and have some system in place where they will redo the job if for whatever reason you are not satisfied? A reputable company should be able to offer you some sort of guarantee so that you are satisfied and happy with the work that they do.
Again, if for any reason they do not offer a guarantee, it might be time to go look for another company.By sticking to these three rules you should be able to find a great local landscaper who will be a good fit for you and your landscaping project.
